Compatible Formats for JPEG Images

The following formats are recommended for compressed JPEG data

Supported Format

Resolution Alignment (H x W)

YCbCr444 (H = 1:1:1, V = 1:1:1)

8 x 8

YCbCr422 (H = 2:1:1, V = 1:1:1)

8 x 16

YCbCr411 (H = 4:1:1, V = 1:1:1)

8 x 32

YCbCr420 (H = 2:1:1, V = 2:1:1)

16 x 16

Only progressive formats are supported. There is no interlaced support. Tools like Adobe Photoshop or GIMP generate output in different formats based on the compression ratio and there is no fixed format. The ExifTool, GStreamer, can be used to see the precise format of the JPEG image generated. Typically, we advise utilising a compression ratio of between 60% and 80% when using Adobe Photoshop.
