In the previous article, we saw about the AI core in an Emotionally Intelligent car. Now let us look into the Personalization layer.

The human facing part of the AI system in the EI car is the Personalization layer which adapts itself to the driver behaviour. Let us explore some of the features that will be personalized.

Driving Characteristics

Driving is a complex mechanism where multiple factors come into picture. Each of us drive based on our own experience, innate personality and emotions. The EI car will learn from the human-driver, how he likes to drive. It can understand when the driver wants to hurry and when he wants to go with the flow. Whether he likes to feel the power of the car or is fine with the finesse. Is he OK to wait in a slow-moving traffic or spend more on fuel & toll roads to keep moving? How aggressive the drive can be? What is his safe distance? Is it OK to zip/zap through the traffic?

As human behaviour is not same always, based on emotional state, it will empathize with the driver and adjust its driving behaviours.

Comfort Settings

EI Car can understand what the driver likes to listen when in his different moods, it can learn what he desires to see. It can adjust the mood lights to brighten him up. It can play calming music to smoothen his nerves. Or pump up the music to further brighten his day. The seats will be adjusted for his posture, driving speed and his emotional state. The air conditioner will be turned on, and temperature set at his preferred levels even before he enters his vehicle.

HMI Interface

Conversational interfaces of the EI car will be so advanced that it will be as good as speaking to a fellow human. But as humans have vision as a primary sensory feature, the cluster and infotainment system will remain an important interface. They will be able to occupy a larger space dynamically as the user wants. If the car is fully autonomous, why limit your movie to a 10-inch screen? Rather use the entire windshield to see it.

While the algorithms for the personalization layer belong to the car manufacturer, future regulations will enforce privacy on the associated data making the user sole owner of it. This data could be standardized and sharable across the vehicles we drive. Just like our Google account, one can upload his preferences to cloud and download it to any car that he will be driving or riding.

When we change our car, the new car will understand us just like that last one did. It will be as simple as switching to a newer iPhone.

So, personalization is going to be a key area the EI car manufacturer will focus up on. Let us look forward to experience one soon.
